The Pork Belly Rice Bowl tells the story of Mattison’s commitment to serve all-natural, high-quality, healthy ingredients. Providing healthy menu options is something the owner and executive chef, Paul Mattison, looks for when sourcing from small family farms, local vendors, and sustainable suppliers. Chef Paul states, “I believe people want to eat healthy and know what they are putting into their bodies. They also want to know how the food they are consuming is being produced and by whom. As more and more people move towards eating clean, the healthier our population becomes, helping us, as a whole, avoid illnesses and even major viruses.”

One partnership that supports this philosophy is between Niman Ranch and Mattison’s. Niman Ranch is a network of more than 740 independently owned, small family farms dedicated to authentic, sustainable farming, and respect for the land and the animals under their care. The animals are never, ever given antibiotics or added hormones, are treated uber humanely and are fed a high quality, 100% vegetarian diet. As stated on their website, the Niman mission is earnest: To raise livestock traditionally, humanely, and sustainably to produce the finest tasting meat in the world.

The Niman business model checked all the boxes for Chef Paul including their strong sense of community and neighborhood. Mattison’s Forty-One is centrally located on 41 in South Sarasota within a short drive for local residents and families from the neighboring areas of Siesta Key, Palmer Ranch, Casey Key and Venice.

Supporting small family farms and community suppliers is as much a key element for Mattison’s as it is for Niman. Mattison’s sources ingredients from suppliers who adhere to sustainable practices and the utmost care for the land and animals. Ingredients from many of these family farms can be found on all Mattison’s menus in dishes like the dish we are featuring – the Pork Belly Rice Bowl – a perfect blend of Ginger Beer braised Teriyaki Pork Belly, Jasmine Rice and Granny Smith slaw.

In addition to new menu items using fresh, all-natural ingredients, Mattison’s Forty-One has recently renovated the inside dining room and expanded the outdoor dining areas, Mattison’s Forty-One offers inside, outside and curbside dining for lunch and dinner, live entertainment, and happy hour specials as well as special event space and full-service catering.

Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille, Mattison’s City Grille and Mattison’s Forty-One were all Recognized as Best Restaurants in Bradenton and Sarasota Based on Outstanding 2019 Diner Reviews.

Mattison’s announced that all three of its locations have been recognized as 2020 Travelers’ Choice award-winners for Best Restaurant. Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews, prior to any changes caused by the pandemic, Mattison’s is known for consistently receiving great diner feedback, placing them in the top 10% of hospitality businesses around the globe.

According to Owner and Executive Chef, Paul Mattison, “We are honored to receive this award and want to thank our guests who have given us high marks for our food and customer service. We strive every day to make each guest experience unique and wonderful. We are thankful that our hard work is being recognized. I also want to thank our entire staff who go above and beyond daily to make sure our guests are happy.”
“Winners of the 2020 Travelers’ Choice Awards should be proud of this distinguished recognition,” said Kanika Soni, Chief Commercial Officer at Tripadvisor. “Although it’s been a challenging year for travel and hospitality, we want to celebrate our partners’ achievements. Award winners are beloved for their exceptional service and quality. Not only are these winners well deserving, they are also a great source of inspiration for diners as the world begins to venture out again.”

Summertime is usually the time we get together with friends and family to enjoy the outdoors or maybe your tribe tends to stay inside the AC where it’s cool. Whatever the case, you need food to make the good times great! Why not let Mattison’s Catering Company do all the work for your shindig, family reunion or friend gathering. Mattison’s Catering is Sarasota and Bradenton’s premier, award-winning caterer, recognized for it’s superb service, customized menus and delicious menu options using quality, healthy ingredients.

Mattison’s suggests keeping your menu fresh, seasonal, and less filling. Summer is the best time to showcase some delicious fruits on your menu. Mango, Papaya, Watermelon and pineapple are just a few thriving options.

Focus on small portions such as skewers or “lollipops” – a fruit sauce or salsa for your proteins is a great way to add that summer flare. Buffet style of service would have food sitting out in the summertime heat.  Keeping the menu as butler passed (butler meaning spouse or kids) or with action stations is ideal, this ensures that cold food stays cool and the hot food remains hot as food is only brought out as it is prepared.

Mattison’s serves Good Food!

We are excited to announce that we have been recognized by Good Food 100 as one of only two restaurants in the area and one of only five in the entire state of Florida, to receive this recognition denoting Mattison’s as a leader in the area of sustainably sourced menu items.

According to the Good Food 100 website, “As ingredient transparency increasingly becomes the most important item on any menu, the Good Food 100 program seeks to redefine how chefs and restaurants are viewed and valued. Good Food 100 Restaurants™ is a badge of trust that educates eaters and recognizes chefs and restaurants that are transparent with their purchasing and sustainable business practices. Founded by food industry veteran Sara Brito, Good Food 100 moves the restaurant industry forward by underscoring how chefs and restaurants are building a better food system and supporting state, regional, and national good food economies.”

Brito adds, “Good food is more than just taste. Truly good food is beneficial for every link in the food chain. We want eaters to appreciate that and learn to evaluate chefs and restaurants for their commitment to transparency, sustainability and their overall impact on good food economies,” said Brito. “Eaters look to ratings, lists and awards to help navigate the proliferation of food choices. Good Food 100 Restaurants is a game changer, shifting away from recognition based on opaque standards and subjective criteria to recognition based on objective standards and transparent criteria defined by economic impact.”

Chef Paul Mattison states, “We are honored to be featured on the 2019 Good Food 100 list. Being included on this prestigious and exclusive list justifies our daily committment to sustainable business practices that include working with small family farms that grow and produce all natural, antibiotic and hormone free products, using environmentally friendly materials, and seeking out partnerships and collaborations with like minded regional and local culinary suppliers.”
