Mattison’s City Grille – Part of the Past!
Downtown Sarasota is home to many iconic and historic businesses and buildings. Mattison’s City Grille is one such icon. Where Mattison’s City Grille sits today was part of the original Seaboard Air Line Railway, the first railway with tracks in Sarasota and an accompanying passenger station that brought thousands of sun-seekers to our area from 1925 to the late 1960’s. They were most likely looking for a great meal and to sit outside where they could enjoy the beautiful Florida weather. Who knew that in 2002, when Chef Paul Mattison opened the restaurant, that they and their descendants would be able to do just that. Like Mattison’s, the railway station was considered the city center. Being in the heart of downtown, Mattison’s is a perfect spot for locals and visitors to enjoy a delicious meal and a cold beverage while listening to live music and watching all the activity on the corner of Main Street and Lemon Avenue. And what represents American cuisine better than a good old-fashioned burger? Mattison’s starts with the best beef, which is all natural, antibiotic and hormone free, from small family farms and adds their own cherry wood smoked bacon with your choice of cheese all on a brioche bun. Grilled to perfection, juicy and flavorful, you can’t go wrong with the Mattison’s Main Street Burger. The train station might be gone but if you look close enough and listen hard enough you may still be able to experience the remnants of days gone by as friends gather to enjoy great food and good times in the Heart of Downtown Sarasota at Mattison’s City Grille.
