Summer is a time enjoy the outdoors, get together with family and friends and, of course, enjoy great meals! I want to start sharing some of my favorite recipes, on a regular basis, so keep an eye out for or recipe series in local papers and magazines throughout the summer and upcoming year. Because some of the recipes can be quite long, they may require you to go to our Web site for the full recipe, so be sure to bookmark mattisons.com as one of your favorites! Below is one of my all time favorite recipes, which we will be featuring in all Mattison's restaurants for Father's Day.

Steak Sango with Bourbon Fired Onions
Ingredients center cut filet mignon, chipotle peppers, honey, fresh parsley, shallots, unsalted butter, Bermuda onions, olive oil, bourbon salt, and pepper
Procedure Sear filet in skillet, or grill over open flame, until evenly lightly browned. Finish in oven if needed. Prepare butter by blending with shallots, peppers, honey, parsley, salt, and pepper. Slice onions into thick rings. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Grill or roast in hot oven until caramelized. Flame with a splash of bourbon.

On Thursday, June 7 Mattison's will be introducing our new Mattison's Culinary Club card, designed to reward Mattison's loyal customers. Mattison's Culinary Club card is easy to use, very practical and costs only $10 (application fee). Just present your card each time you dine, shop, or cater with Mattison's and you will earn one point for every dollar you spend, no minimum (catering earns you one point for every five dollars). Once you accumulate 250 points you will receive a $25 credit on your Mattison's Culinary Club card which will be good for your next visit to Mattison's. You can check your current points online, along with being able to read about new special promotions and rewards specifically for Mattison's Culinary Club card members. Syrah From Around the World, from spicy to fruity including their blends, will be the focus of this wonderful wine tasting evening. Mattison's sommelier introduces you to Syrah, and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. After an informal discussion, a vote will be taken to choose the best wine for that evening.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is the theme this week, discussing two of the most successful red grapes. What is it exactly that makes them both so widely popular? We will taste a variety from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines from around the world and discuss their appeal, qualities, and complexities.

Mattison's Father's Day Sunday, June 17

This Father's Day, all Mattison's restaurants will be serving Chef Paul Mattison's signature special Steak Sango with Bourbon Fired Onions. The center cut filet mignon is seared to perfection, and topped with bourbon fired onions and chipotle honey butter, finished with a Cabernet honey glaze, and served with truffle mashed potatoes. This is ooh so good, dad deserves to be treated to Mattison's!

Stone Magazine, a national travel and lifestyle publication out of Chicago, wrote an article in a recent edition about Sarasota's Artful side. What Chef Paul Mattison's Prime Rib Dinner
When Thursday evenings from 5:30-9pm
Available on Thursday's only, we are adding a French Onion Soup and Prime Rib (in 10oz, 16oz, and 20oz cuts) to our dinner menu. Our Prime Rib is slowly roasted with the bones, locking in all the flavors and tenderness. It is then hand cut to order, and accompanied with fresh market vegetables, sauces, and your choice of Tuscan roasted fingerling potatoes, truffle mashed potatoes, traditional baked potato, or sweet potato gratin, along in an elegant atmosphere. Our Prime Rib, along with all of our beef, is dry aged. You will also enjoy live music by the Debbie Keeton Jazz Duo from 7-9pm.

What This national television program boasts a viewing audience of approximately 150 million people. They visited Sarasota last February to film a segment of The Secret Lives of Women, a documentary style program. Mattison's City Grille was used as one of the local locations for filming, among other familiar Sarasota hot spots, and can be seen in the second half of the segment along with being mentioned in the Special Thanks at the end of the segment. Mattison's Riverside and the Manatee Players have partnered to offer patrons of both organizations the best of both worlds for less! Mattison's-Players Package is an all inclusive dinner-theatre package for $48 which includes dinner at Mattison's Riverside from a special menu with your choice of either a starter and an entr�e or an entr�e and dessert including tax and tip along with a ticket to the Manatee Players. When you purchase the package, you will be issued two tickets, one for dinner at Mattion's Riverside (reservations requested) and one for the theatre. Celebrate July 4th with Mattison's Riverside

The best place in town to view the fireworks this July 4th is Mattison's Riverside! Bring the whole family and join us for great food, festivities, and fireworks on the Memorial Pier for this year's amazing 4th of July celebration. Live music, specialty drinks, beer, dine-in from our award winning lunch and dinner menus or enjoy take-out fare and sit along the waterfront and enjoy the cool breeze. There will be a $5 cover, no coolers please. The fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9:15pm and promise to the best on the West Coast.

The Second Annual Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week is hosted by The Sarasota Convention and Visitor's Bureau (SCVB). This 10-day dining event showcases Sarasota's favoite chefs and dining establishments, including Mattison's City Grille and Mattison's Riverside which will offer patrons a fixed-price lunch for $15 and dinner menu for $25.
