Biz Bash, a leading national catering and event planning trade publication, has named Mattison's Anna Pohl as one of their, Top 20 under 40, calling this group "the top 20 professionals to keep an eye on" in the Florida catering scene. The article appears in Biz Bash’s December 2006/January 2007 issue.

Anna is the only professional to receive this recognition from the Sarasota/Manatee area and came as a wonderful surprise since she was not aware she was nominated. "This is a great honor for Mattison's and for Anna", says Chef Paul Mattison "I know, and our clients know, that Anna is a great wedding and event planner, but when we are recognized within our own industry of professionals, it is icing on the cake."

Catersource Magazine, a national publication and the largest trade publication for professional caterers, held a Cover Contest, asking caterers around the globe to submit professional images of the latest trends in catering. Mattison's submitted this photo upon the suggestion of Mattison’s Catering Director, Anna Pohl, of Mattison’s famous raspberry martinis and pomegranate shots, and won the contest. Mattison's Food and Beverage Director, Vinnie Batiato, prepared the drinks, the food/drink styling was done by Mattison’s Marketing Director, Jennifer Ahearn-Koch, and photographer Mark Sickles captured the image and spirit of Mattison's Catering Company. The image was taken in the Fireplace Lounge at Mattison’s Steakhouse at the Plaza on Longboat Key.

Mattison's Steakhouse at the Plaza has gone Tuscan!
On Thursday, January 11 we will be introducing a new menu with an emphasis on Tuscan flavors. Ben Christopher, Mattison's Steakhouse at the Plaza's chef, spent the summer in Italy with Chef Paul Mattison cooking along side some of Italy's best chefs and learning first hand Italy's best kept secrets, along with exciting special ingredients and food combinations.

We will continue to feature most of your favorite signature Mattison's dishes, along with these exciting new Tuscan selections and we are proud to remind you that we make all of our own sausage, pasta, bread, and desserts by hand and that all of our meats are hand carved. If you ever need a wine recommendation, our sommelier is happy to guide you on the perfect wine selection with your meal. Here is a sample of a few of our new menu items:

We are so excited to introduce this educational and fun wine 101 class for women. Make it your Girls' Night Out and learn about wine. We will have Mattison's sommelier speak about a different style of wine each month including a wine tasting, and also allow plenty of time for a Q & A. Following each evening we will have an informal discussion about the tastings and a vote will be taken to choose the best wine for that evening.

At the end of the six sessions, after the last class on June 27 at 7:30pm, husbands, boyfriends, partners, and friends are invited to join the group, where we will pair all of the favorite selections from the previous weeks with a special wine paired dinner tasting. The price for this special evening $85 plus tax and tip.

For our first mini-seminar on January 31, we will discover Champagne and sparkling wine, their history, unique qualities, colors, and why they always seems to signal a special occasion.
