Even though it is hot, August in Sarasota is actually one of my favorite months: there is very little traffic, it stays light late, the sunsets are amazing, there is plenty of parking at the beach if you want to cool off, and the selection and variety of summer fruit is wonderful.

Welcome Gianna Grace Mattison

Michelle and Paul Mattison were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Gianna Grace Mattison, on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 12:21pm born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Gianna Grace is a healthy six pound eight ounce baby girl and is 19 and three quarters inches tall. Mom, baby and Chef are all doing very well.

The Mattison's Culinary Club card is easy to use, very practical and costs only $10 (application fee). Just present your card each time you dine, shop, or cater with Mattison's and you will earn one point for every dollar you spend, no minimum (catering earns you one point for every five dollars). Once you accumulate 250 points you will receive a $25 credit on your Mattison's Culinary Club card which will be good for your next visit to Mattison's. Join us in September as Chef Paul Mattison transforms, once again, Mattison's Steakhouse at the Plaza into an exciting night club, hosting the always unpredictable UnParty, the precursor event for the annual UnGala Gala. The exciting UnParty evening features live music, dancing, a fantastic fashion show, and a special menu prepared by Chef Paul Mattison! Event Chair, Chris Pfahler, leads the UnGala Gala committee this year and will place plenty of clues around Mattison's Steakhouse at the Plaza during the UnParty for those guests intent on deciphering the theme of this year's UnGala Gala! All proceeds from both the UnParty and the UnGala Gala benefit the The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

Prime Rib Thursdays at

Available on Thursday's only, Mattison's Steakhouse at the Plaza has added Prime Rib (in 10oz, 16oz, and 20oz cuts) to our dinner menu. Our Prime Rib is slowly roasted with the bones, locking in all the flavors and tenderness. It is then hand cut to order, and accompanied with fresh market vegetables, sauces, and your choice of Tuscan roasted fingerling potatoes, truffle mashed potatoes, traditional baked potato, or sweet potato gratin, along in an elegant atmosphere. Our Prime Rib, along with all of our beef, is dry aged. Relax and enjoy live music by the Debbie Keeton Jazz Duo from 6-9pm.

Mattison's Riverside and the Manatee Players have partnered to offer patrons of both organizations the best of both worlds for less! Mattison's-Players Package is an all inclusive dinner-theatre package for $48 which includes dinner at Mattison's Riverside from a special menu with your choice of either a starter and an entr�e or an entr�e and dessert including tax and tip along with a ticket to the Manatee Players. When you purchase the package, you will be issued two tickets, one for dinner at Mattison's Riverside (reservations requested) and one for the theatre. You must be seated by 6pm so you have plenty of time to enjoy your dinner before the curtain is raised at 8pm. Wedding Tip of the Month

What is the latest hot trend in weddings? Monograms. Yes, that is right, monograms are so popular, they have provided the wedding theme in some recent cases. Monograms are traditional and understated, yet dramatic as a visual reminder of couple's new life together. Monograms pop up all over a wedding. For example, some couples use them in postage stamps, stationary, aisle runners, bouquet ribbons, groomsmen cuffs, ring bearer pillows and gift bags for guests in hotel rooms. In the catering realm, we're seeing monograms written on the plate edge for the dessert or wedding cake and on the wedding cake itself as a cake topper or inscribed in the frosting. Mattison's Catering Company has created ice sculpture for seafood and shrimp displays with the monogram in the ice carvings of baskets, vases or even swans. Another great spot for a monogram is having it carved directly into decorative melon on a gorgeous fruit and imported cheese display.
